Integrating ESL with your POS system: how does it work?

24 June 20266 minESL

An ESL label showing the wrong price is worse than a paper label. The customer trusts digital more — if it's wrong, the trust damage is greater. That's why integration with your POS system is crucial.

Technically the integration works via a central ESL server (on-premise or cloud) that uses your POS system as the 'single source of truth'. Price changes in your POS are pushed to the ESL server in real time, which then updates the labels.

All major ESL brands — Hanshow, Pricer, SES Imagotag Vusion, SoluM, Zkong — have standard integrations with known POS systems. Implementation typically takes 2-6 weeks for a single store.

Important integration points: 1) prices (base, promo, member-only), 2) product metadata (name, allergens, origin), 3) stock status for 'out of stock' notifications, 4) category info for bulk updates.

Organizationally: appoint an 'ESL owner' on your side who monitors the process. Price changes become easier but also more impactful — a mistake is immediately visible in all stores.

WH Retail guides the complete integration: from choosing the ESL platform to coupling with your POS system, including a test phase in one store.
